See I use to be very pro girls in the BB but I am becoming more and more anti girls for some reason.

This years motion at council will probably not go through as the council is being held in Scotland ans they will be out in numbers to say no.

In all seriousness I do not know, its just been in the last few months more than anything. I am not saying that I am against it but I have just thought twice.

From what I understand, under the new rules if they get through, Companies should run in the way that the 133rd do with a Girls' Association. I don't see why there'd be a problem with that as they're not full members of the BB, but allows Companies to work with Girls if they choose. I guess I would be against having them as full BB members as a lot of other people are.

I know a lot of Scottish Companies don't have the Girls problem quite as much, but if the motion is voted against, I don't think them being out in numbers would be the only reason - the same thing happened in Wales too!

They do but how many go???

See I do sympathize with the companies who want to be boys only. It is companies like ourselves who have caused the problem.

Lol, you have a point but the issue of changing the BB's name would be bigger than the girls issue lol

A question for the older officers in our company....

What was the reason, or reasons, for us working with girls?

Ash,

Perhaps your last post should have been on the 'Ask the Captain' thread.

I'm sure Mr R will know the reasons as he was involved in the negotiations to join the church in question.

However I believe it was a requirement of moving the Company to the Church, as they had no Girls activity there.

But Mr R will probably be able to fill in more details.

Ok, ye..... I put it in here as A) it was a girls issue, and B) I thought it may have been a decision all the officers had a say in.

But I will await a reply from him (or any other officer who would like to say something) in answer to the question

Well council ruled that girls are allowed in the Brigade, but not as full members...... through membership in the girls association.

A victory for girls?
A loss for boys?

Just to flesh out Ash's post. The vote at Council was to accept a new set of BB regulations, covering everything from age limits, uniform etc. 'Girls in the BB' was just a small part of it.

It allows Companies to register in one of 4 different ways -

1. Company with Boys only.
2. Company with Boys and a Girls Association. (Age limits as for Boys)
3. Company with Boys and an Amicus Group (young men & women up to age 25)
4. Company with Boys AND a Girls Association AND an Amicus group.

Companies currently registering in Group 1, can in the future, if they feel the need, change to any of the other groups. However, if they do so, they CANNOT then change back to Boys only, as this would clearly contravene the Sex Discrimination Act.

Regulations also allow girls to take part in all BB competitions, except where a National Governing Body does not allow it. e.g. Girls could not play in the Company Section football team. (Although they could play in a Junior Section team up to age 11 (FA Regulations - http://www.thefa.com/GrassrootsOld/GrassRootsNews/Postings/2002/05/10960.htm)
